Durian is the highest-value tree crop in Southeast Asia. However, yield gaps between orchards often come from nutrition timing rather than genetics. Because of this, a written durian fertilizer program removes much of the guesswork. This note sets out the stages, the nutrients and the questions to settle before the season starts.
Why a Durian Fertilizer Program Beats Ad-Hoc Feeding
Ad-hoc feeding reacts to how the tree looks today. A program, in contrast, works from the calendar instead. Durian flushes, flowers and fruits on a slow cycle. Therefore a missed window cannot be corrected later in the same season. Written schedules also make offers easier to compare, because each line maps to a stage.
Growth Stages and What the Tree Needs
Vegetative flush after harvest rebuilds the canopy. At this stage, nitrogen and balanced NPK carry the tree. Flower initiation then shifts demand toward phosphorus. After that, fruit set and fill raise potassium and calcium demand sharply. Finally, the tree rests after harvest and stores reserves for the next flush.

Building the Durian Fertilizer Schedule
A workable schedule names the stage, the product and the application method. It also sets the interval between rounds. In practice, most orchards in the region run three to five feeding rounds a year. Rainfall drives the split, because heavy rain leaches mobile nutrients away from the root zone.

Potassium and Calcium at Fruit Fill
Fruit fill is where quality is won or lost. Potassium drives aril fill and sweetness. Calcium and magnesium, meanwhile, support skin strength and help against split fruit. Because calcium moves slowly inside the plant, it must be supplied early. Where calcium and phosphate are both needed, keep them in separate tanks.

Fertigation Versus Granular Application
Fertigation delivers small doses often. Granular application, by contrast, delivers larger doses less often. Each has a place in a durian program. As a result, many orchards use granular material as a base and soluble grades for correction.

What Buyers Should Ask Suppliers
Ask for the analysis sheet and the trace element list for each grade. Also request details on how the product behaves in hard water. Finally, ask for the certificate of analysis for the lot you will receive. Those three documents settle most quality disputes before they start.
